This book is a game changer for all women! Barbara Stanny’s genius gave me the tools to address my ‘lack mentality’ through soul vs. ego thus leading me to clarify my self-worth giving me permission to ‘think big.’ I was able to successfully raise my rates, work less, invest more and have lots of time left over to feed my soul. This book ROCKS!

Written by Leisa Peterson (not Tim as this is our family account) - I couldn't wait to read this book after reading several of Barbara's past chronicles. This book definitely did not disappoint and I found it filled with helpful stories, quotes, exercises and insights about ways to live a more fulfilling and satisfying life. I love Barbara's writing style as it keeps you interested from page one until the very end. Barbara isn't like many writers who just tell you how to live your life, she lives through her stories so you know that everything she is suggesting is tried and true advice from a seasoned and heart focused professional. I am recommending this book to every woman I know as it could be a catalyst style game changer for those who are ready for more GREATNESS in their lives.

Didn't Inspire Me

I’ve read several of Barbara Stanny’s books and was really looking forward to her latest one, “Sacred Success.” I know I’m in the minority here, but overall, I was very disappointed. I’m glad that other readers found the book to be enlightening and helpful, but I quickly grew annoyed with all the New Age “wisdom.” All this talk of the “Call to Greatness” and “Receptive Surrender” is just too “woo-woo” for my tastes. The second half of the book is a little more practical, with some actual steps you can take to build wealth. There are also a few simple exercises that I found useful and very thought-provoking. (e.g., Answer the following, one of the "Three Big Questions": “If nothing at all changed, what will my life look like in five years?”) But all in all, I found this book to be a stretch. In my opinion, it would have worked better as a long magazine article. The author says she originally set out to write about women who make seven figures, but her editor turned the idea down. I don’t know what the editor was thinking! A book about female millionaires—their mindsets and how they became successful—is one that I would definitely be interested in reading.

A remarkably effective reminder to wash your hands. Good book, too.

This was recommended to me by a microbiology professor, and a sound recommendation it was. Briefly, I'll discuss who it appeals to and then the book itself.

To frame my interest, I'm the sort of person who likes watching "How It's Made" and am fascinated by infectious disease and the countermeasures deployed against them. An interested layperson. If you've ever taken a Microbiology course (or something related), you can likely appreciate the nuance of what's happening. Otherwise, it might seem a little nebulous.

Bookwise, we step into the ancient world. Nowadays, the germ theory of disease is not contested. It is the reality we live in. If someone gets sick and there isn't a bone poking out of somewhere, we tend to blame germs. Professionals break up germs into many different divisions and categories, but for the most part, the medical profession can do something when you get sick. Like... cure you.

It becomes clear that illness was a more grave concern as recently as a century ago, something that wasn't conceivable for me before I read this book. Wife got sick after childbirth? Bye bye, wifey. Kids got sick? Well, crap. Better have more. In this day and age where we try to save so many lives, it strains credulity to imagine that life was so cheap.

Enter Domagk, a researcher at the bleeding edge of his field. This is a tale of a man who was obsessed with locating a 'magic bullet' to do away with infection. It was a riveting read, and I'm glad to have put the time into it.

One of the best popular science books I've read

This is a truly eye opening book. On the surface it describes the history of the
discovery of a synthetic antibiotic that is of limited use in modern medicine. But it
really is far more than that - it tells an important part of the story of how
the pharma and medicine that we know today came to be. Hager does not overreach -
he has a compelling story, and he tells it exceedingly well. But he also does a superb
job of putting it in both its historical and scientific context.

Nonlinear storytelling has become pretty common in modern science writing,
and it is can be pretty annoying - writers seem to selectively choose fractions
of episodes from the history that seem to support their (frequently very narrow)
thesis. In this book, Hager uses the same technique in a far more effective and
informative way. The interludes are themselves brief, but masterfully told,
histories of great discoveries in science and medicine.

An exceptional book by an exceptional scientist!

As a Biochemistry graduate student, I am constantly on the lookout for books which could help me in my research. When this particular book came out, I didn't have second thoughts in purchasing it and my decision was amply rewarded. I am greatly impressed by the way Dr. Hafiz Ahmed presented his work. The principles/theories are outlined followed by the step-by-step experimental procedures which are easy to follow. As I read the contents of each page, I couldn't help but feel that the author conceptualized the book in such a way that the end-user won't have any difficulty in conducting his research since each topic has a detailed description. This book is a valuable investment that every student/biochemist will be proud of.

knowing what we know, as revealed

How do we know, that we know? Or better put, how do we begin to have any comprehension of the world that we know? For John Frame, a professor at Reformed Theological Seminary, all knowledge, of ourselves, of the world around us and anything beyond, the starting point begins and ends with knowledge of God. As such, revelation, knowledge gained from outside our own perspective, given directly to us, must come, or most of what our attempts at knowledge are mere stabs in the dark.

This book is the result of years of teaching, and in fact, the book itself, written about twenty years ago, came about from a class on the Christian Mind. This is a deep and complex book. Many have said, including its author (!), that a great many of its readers will find use of it as primarily a reference book. But there are great truths to think and dwell upon, and yes, wrestle with, if the reader digs deeper.

A key concept expounded in this book is the concept of three perspectives - the rational, the situational and the experiential; with the idea that all forms of knowledge, that is that knowledge of the world, ourselves and God relates in an inter related triangle that are identical and interdependent. In other words they all rely on each other. In other words, while different, all ways that we know, rely on each other. It would be strange to many Christians to think that it is not first the Bible, or revealed revelation that rules knowledge. But Frame, really arguing from a very traditional Reformed stance, says that what you bring to understanding the Scriptures, your reason, your world that you live in and your personal contact with God that determines the way that Scripture rules in the lives of believers. Because Frame writes of a sovereign God, who reveals himself through people, and through nature, that man is in God's image and that nature declares God, that he cites a three way understanding for how we know, beginning with how God reveals himself to us.

Due to the first way of knowledge, God revealing himself to man, Frame cites the uses and abilities of tools of knowing: logic, language, history, science and philosophy, in service to a ruling and revealing God. He strongly believes that every man is a theologian and as a result wrestles with these questions every day, in every part of his life. Again, this is a deep book, but in many ways, it is just an introductory book for dealing with the idea of how do we know what we know, beginning with how God has revealed and continues to reveal himself to man.

If the reader is looking for a long term read dealing with aspects of God's rule over every area of his life, including the religious portion, this would be a fine place to start.

Excellent Treatment of Christian Epistemology

Overall, I felt this was a very strong book from Frame. He addresses the epistemological issues of theology very well in a clear, precise, and cogent manner. Frame promotes his perspectivalism throughout the book as he emphasizes the unity and diversity we encounter in epistemology. I suppose I was expecting a more technical or philosophical treatment of the subject when I picked up the book and felt the book wasn't as technical as I had desired being that I have read much Van Til. Notwithstanding, this book is an excellent read and I would go so far as to say required reading for Christians seeking to get a better grasp of a Biblical worldview and hence its epistemology.

"Eric Chaisson." Eric holds a doctorate in astrophysics from Harvard University, where he spent ten years on the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. For five years, Eric was a Senior Scientist and Director of Educational Programs at the Space Telescope Science Institute and Adjunct Professor of Physics at Johns Hopkins University. He then joined Tufts University, where he is now Professor of Physics, Professor of Education, and Director of the Wright Center for Innovative Science Education. He has written nine books on astronomy, which have received such literary awards as the Phi Beta Kappa Prize, two American Institute of Physics Awards, Harvard's Smith-Weld Prize for Literary Merit, and the Walter P. Kistler Book Award. He has published more than 100 scientific papers in professional journals, and has also received Harvard's Bok Prize for original contributions to astrophysics. "Steve McMillan." Steve holds a bachelor's and master's degree in Mathematics from Cambridge University and a doctorate in Astronomy from Harvard University. He has published more than 50 scientific papers in professional journals.

Really well written!

I'm about halfway through Learning RSLogix 5000 and I am loving it. There are a number of poor PLC programming books out there - books full of editorial issues, books written by authors who may be able to PLC program well but are for sure butchers of the English language, and books full of obsolete information and impractical sidebars. People who work in automation know that one thing they can never have enough of is time - which means it's imperative to just stop reading crummy books. And as well, it's imperative to promote a great book when you find one. Austin writes very well, at a level that's pragmatic, well-paced for his intended audience and provides illustrations that help provide clarity to complex topics. Very well done!

The book is a great read for those both new to Industrial Controllers as well as seasoned practitioners. The information is presented in a pragmatic fashion - giving real life reason why you might want/not want to do something - not just a theoretical book. I appreciated all of the side note information: there is a good deal of ancillary information in there. I also appreciated the quality and quantity of illustrations in the book - it keeps the read interesting and not dry. The author definitely has a great breadth and depth of knowledge which is apparent while the various topics of networking and Industrial Control Systems are discussed.

This book is alright I guess.
The information in this book you could really get from any marketing book. There are points in this book that would be helpful to someone, but not in my case. If you know anything about six-sigma, lean, TOC, TQM, and even VE-VM at all, this book might not be what you are looking for.

About the Author
A renowned author, advisor, and academic, Garman is a Fellow and Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Virginia Tech University, where he directed the National Institute for Personal Finance Employee Education. He subsequently founded the Personal Finance Employee Education Foundation. Author of 40 book's and 200 academic research articles, Garman directed several award-winning research studies that link the financial fortunes of employers with the financial health of their employees. Research consistently shows that decreasing employee financial distress and improving personal financial well-being creates better workers. Garman's research has been the most cited in the field for over 20 years. He has worked for a U.S. senator in Washington, D.C., in economic development in West Africa, and for a national non-profit credit counseling organization. He is an elected Distinguished Fellow of both the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education and the American Council on Consumer Interests. Garman has served on advisory boards for the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, International Board of Standards and Practices for Certified Financial Planners, American National Standards Institute, National Foundation for Credit Counseling, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and National Advertising Review Board. His consulting includes work for Profit Sharing/401(k) Council of America, Manulife Financial, AT&T, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, and U.S. Department of Defense. His work has been featured in hundreds of publications, including USA Today, New York Times, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, and U.S. News & World Report, and he has appeared on National Public Radio and NBC Nightly News.

Raymond Forgue retired after 28 years as an associate professor in the Department of Family Studies at the University of Kentucky. He served as chair of the department and acting dean of the College of Human Environmental Sciences. Forgue taught various courses in consumer studies, personal finance, and insurance. His professional service has included the presidency of the American Council of Consumer Interests and the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education. Since retirement he has continued to write and consult on personal finance education training for the Accredited Financial Counselor certification program, AARP, and other organizations. Forgue serves on the Boards of the Personal Finance Employee Education Foundation and the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors.
