If you're passionate about having a great bar and serving great cocktails

If you're passionate about having a great bar and serving great cocktails, this is a fantastic book! I went into this knowing that I would be making bitters that would take 3 months to complete. I decided to go all in and make all of the bitters and several of the infusion recipes in the book. In one more month, I will have an incredible bar set up. I bought amber glass bottles with droppers and all the essential ingredients for the bitters on Amazon. The truffle snow and coconut foam recipe with the st. germain cocktail was AMAZING! I had a question about measurements for the bitters, called Barchef in Toronto and they were fantastic, taking about 10 minutes to walk me through the process. If you're passionate about having a well stocked bar and serving great cocktails, this is a great book! Once the bitters are ready, they are huge quantities and will last indefinitely so you are set for the long haul.

This is one of my favorite cocktail books

This is one of my favorite cocktail books. It was one of the first books that I found that gave you all the recipes for everything they use including bitters. There are some fairly complicated recipes contained inside, but there are plenty of simpler drinks as well. The bitters, syrups and infusion recipes might just be worth it even without the cocktail recipes. If you are very new to making cocktails at home, this might not be the first book you should buy, but it should be in your top 3.

Beautiful pictures and creative ideas but it's not practical unless you plan out the drinks you want to make months in advance. Most drinks have ingredients that must be prepared really far in advance. Perhaps we will start planning our Christmas cocktail when the decorations first come out.

I loved this book. A funny and poignant memoir that I couldn't put down

Growing up the daughter of privilege in middle-class, South Africa in the 1970s and 1980s, Joanne Fedler never knew from real hunger. Fast forward to present-day Sydney, Australia and now she has it in spades. Hungry for her family and friends; her homeland and the life she left behind in South Africa; hungry to make a connection in a foreign country, and more urgently for Joanne, hungry because she has just been put on a strict diet.
Early on we meet Joanne in a Sydney dietician's office. She has come there to make some changes. She reached a point in her life when she couldn't say that after 5 years she was still trying to lose the "baby weight." A nosy woman in line at the grocery store asks her if she was expecting, and she admits to not recognizing herself in photographs. She takes a big step forward when she finds professional help. She makes an appointment to see a dietician (the "food fascist", as the seemingly heartless dietician becomes affectionately known).
Wrenched from her homeland (by her own choice, after a series of violent crimes that were too close for comfort), Joanne and her family immigrate to Australia. She finds herself alone every day with two young children in a strange country, and at a loss. This is quite a change from her prior life. A top law student and promising human rights lawyer, (who also studied at Yale on a Fulbright scholarship) with a loving family, many close friends and colleagues; she now finds herself alone and disconnected, suffering from growing insecurities and doubts. Joanne takes us through those first few painful years in Australia and I found myself cheering for her small victories as she comes to terms with her losses and learns to laugh again, all the while as her pounds melt away.
What started off as a book about Joanne wanting to lose some extra weight becomes a wonderful and rich read about how Joanne learns to make peace with hunger and emptiness; and not to fight them. Over time, she learns how to let go of things she can't control; how to get rid of excess baggage and stop seeing herself as a victim. Slowly we see Joanne making her own way in the (new) world, having a bit of faith that what is meant to be, will be, and actually savoring the moment, whether it's the bite of food, or the walk on the beach. Throughout the process, Joanne never loses her sense of humor and her easy-going style, and insightful prose, makes this a great read.
For everyone who needs to get rid of some excess emotional baggage, learn to let go and have a bit of faith, (even if you are not moving continents) this one's for you.

An Experience as Much as a Story.

I really, really loved this book. Yes, it WAS about her diet (and how many of us have called our dieticians "Food Fascists", or wanted to?), but about a whole lot more. She is a woman who embraces life to the full, and this made her give herself completely to the extremes that are Africa. She loved the country and all its people, but also knew first hand what its endemic violence cost, a cost that eventually made her nuclear family emigrate to Australia. Australia was peaceful, but they had left behind family, money and familiarity, all losses which she described and came to terms with in a parallel to the dieting experience. There was a lot to learn, and ultimately new friends were made and Australia became home, although South Africa is, and always will be part of the tapestry of her life.

This book is a rite of passage, a pilgrimage, an autobiography and more. I think it's particular genius is that you find yourself so drawn into it that her experience awakens you to yours, and in reading this, you embark on your own travels so you also are left just that bit wiser having made this journey. I hope this publication is supremely successful. It deserves to be.

Excellent if you only need this part of the volume

The item was very helpful. It is only the first part of the whole edition: The electricity part, so if you are looking only for a part of the whole, this version will be the best option for you. Includes everything from practice problems and equations to answers on the back.

This text has made my semester hell!

The other reviews sum it all very nicely, this is a terrible physics text. Notice how heavily the number of one and two star reviews outweigh 3,4, and 5 star reviews. If you are a teacher, instructor, or professor, and use this text, you are a bad person. I just can't even express in words how bad everything is done. 80% of the time spent in this text is trying to figure out what went on in an EXAMPLE'S intermediate step.

Tipler - Dull & stiff

Generally a good book, if you just want to learn the formulas. The reasoning behind deriving the formulas and explaining physical concepts lacks depth and thorough explanation, so much of it is like "this is the way it is, so this leads to that". Tipler seems to be caught up with juggling the mathematical equations. This means that you will not grasp the ideas behind it all, and leaves you without the proper understanding to tackle the level III problems, as stated by so many of the other reviewers. Even though there exists a lot of examples, they still don't make up for the lack of profound explanations. One way to deal with it is to first read the corresponding chapter in Feynman Lectures On Physics and look at Tiplers examples, perhaps then you will be better off. So unfortuenately this is not the book that inspires you about the subject just dealth with, more it gives you the feeling of "phew! I got past this part", this I consider is the most critical point of all books, they should be more than a reference manual, they should inspire and exite you about the subject.

Great puzzles for Kindle

I found these puzzles extremely challenging and worth every minute of my time. The graphics and clickable help buttons work great for the kindle. There are layers to the different puzzles, meaning they require the user to dig seep into more than one area of the mind to work each one out. I looked at a few and thought that I had them figured out right away. The beauty of this collect is that not everything is as it appears. I ran them by my wife and found it enjoyable to compare how we went about solving them, each in our own way. I highly recommend this book.

I enjoy puzzles - especially looking for patterns and so I was drawn to this book in the listings. I think it's difficult to keep them interesting yet on a similar level - not too hard yet not too easy. This did great in that regard.

I thought it was well laid out for an eBook which made going from puzzle to solution to the next puzzle quite easy.

Great for a car ride, bus ride - or I just would work a few during my lunch break.

Great text!

I had been looking for a book that covered breast pathology without being overly wordy and that was clear and concise with excellent photos. This book fulfilled those criteria. I was impressed with the overall volume of images and captions. The chapter breakdowns make sense. The description are concise, including differentials and key immunohistochemical stain choices and good discussion of salient points.

Only 1 mistake found so far. In the text on fibroadenomas they misspoke in the text, but the images have the description correct in regards to intracanalicular vs intercanlicular variants.

Was overall a great help for my rotation. Look forward to reading more in a few months.

Expensive but pretty good start for a 1st volume. Very thorough with the presentation of evidence in academic topics but very basic and overly brief for other practical topics. I personally expected more discussion and clarity on problematic entities (eg. papillary lesions) for the price.
