One of the best books around but not for the beginner, advanced beginner ok, you need to know how to draw somewhat but I love the way things are explained and so happy I got it to home my skills. It works you through composition, light and shadow and different mediums that you can draw with. I would give it 6 stars if I could.

Vic Bearcroft's Drawing and Painting Wild Animals is good for people who want to learn how to paint in acrylics or draw in colored or graphite pencil, though not all of his art is as good as the cover image may lead you to think. Many of the drawings/paintings in this book appear blurry or incomplete, especially his pastel paintings, but, since I have practically no talent when it comes to acrylics, and am starting to work with colored pencil, I find this to be a good book on both subjects. If you are looking for a decent all-round animal art instruction book then this is one of the better ones, especially for beginning artists.

Single greatest weapon in my writing arsenal.

No one can teach you how to write. Jeff Kitchen can teach you how to make what you write better. This book offers a wide range of dramatic tools to develop a winning premise into a fully realized script and take an existing script to the next level. Most books on screenwriting suggest "this is where you should...". And indeed it should be there, but I want to know how to do it with with my story? Jeff not only shows you where to go, he gives you several ways to get there. His explanation of central dilemma is worth the meager $13.57 asking price. Do yourself a favor buy this book (I did and the response to my screenplay has gone from "good" to "I couldn't put it down").

Look no further, Jeff Kitchen's book is the gold standard for building a a screenplay. I've read dozens of books on the craft, and this is the only one that leads you through the dirty work of building your story piece by piece.

Jeff's tools help you transform your tale into a compelling drama.

As a reader, you will feel like you're looking over Jeff's shoulder as he lays the bricks of a pyramid from the ground up.

I've been applying the tools to a script I previously completed. The DILEMMA tool really helped me get a handle on some weak spots regarding my main character. And the Sequence, Proposition, Plot tool blew me out of the water.

I also plan to use "Writing a Great Movie" to build other story ideas I've been working on. Jeff offers all the ingredients needed to cook up an original and memorable story.

But you still have to add the spices, brew the potion to just the right temperature and serve it to an audience hungry for a film that will "rock their world."

Jeff's book will help you do that. Too bad I could only give it five stars. It deserves at least ten.

Very useful, very practical

Unlike most screenwriting books, this one doesn't delve into formatting a script or selling a screenplay. Instead it gets deeply and thoroughly into the nuts and bolts of critical topics like storytelling, theme, and character development.

I particularly like his practical suggestions for using Polti's 36 dramatic situations and the enneagram as brainstorming tools. I've seen books on those things before but needed more information on the practical application of such tools, and this book is it. As one who writes short stories and novel-length fiction, this book has really helped me plow past some writer's block and take a hard look at my characters.

I can see using this book again and again, especially during National Novel Writing Month when I'm the most starved for a fresh idea.

The magic of John Wheeler

This is the sixth book by John Wheeler, each one adopting a similar format of dialogues, questions answered, and pointers. The point of non-duality, according to John, is to clarify what you are. He is quite unique in the sense that he remains focused on this core teaching, totally mindful of crossing that fine line into conceptual thinking. From one perspective John's writing is like a tradesman; answering questions with amazing patience and unwavering adherence to the truth of who we are. A close inspection of his writing style indicates beautifully crafted sentences and fresh metaphors that flow along in a very appealing manner.

The magic of John Wheeler that I alluded to in the heading is simply this - he is never boring! Even though his topic is always the same, the words have a vibrancy that is forever fresh and immediate. He describes our natural state with such a powerful conviction and intimacy that there is no doubt he is coming from a place of total freedom. I have read all six of his books and while they are all superb, I find there is a subtle evolution in his ability to express the truth of what we are. Reading his pointers is like a gentle rain falling upon the parched earth of our conceptual prison! John has been instrumental in helping a growing number of people to a non-conceptual recognition of their true nature.

This That You Already Are

When spiritual aspirants ask me what to read, I ask them what are they are really, really looking for. Based on most answers, it is interesting how seldom I recommend John's books. If the person is interested in feeling better, propping up beliefs, including non-dual beliefs, coming to a better understanding, creating a credible philosophical position, or any agenda at all, John's books are not for them. One very bright fellow told me they were boring and he just couldn't get into them. Yes, well.....

So who are John's books for? Hopefully for you. These are "end-game" books. John's pointing has a laser-like precision that helps us see through all of our wrong beliefs and experiences, and recognize our true nature, which is always present and always available.

If you are ready to put it all down and simply be what you are, this book is for you.

Great preface by Rodney Stevens, who, with John's help, realized, "Oh, how wonderful it is...!"

Don't forget to stop, right here and now---

Having just finished reading "Clear in Your Heart", which, I believe, is John Wheeler's clearest and most penetrating work to date, I'm reminded of a caveat by John given to this writer personally during a recent (and truly enjoyable) telephone conversation: John's suggestion: "Listen, Don, don't overshoot the mark!" Words can neither describe nor explain the profound effect this advice had on me; the best I can do is share the great joy and relief associated with (at long last!) the cessation of "chasing my own tail".
John's latest book, written simply, methodically, and even, perhaps, poetically, has the capacity, if read attentively, to once and for all bring home to even the most frustrated and cynical "seeker" the ultimate truth: This, here and now, is it! Such was, is, and always will be the case, if you merely stop mentating and simply start looking! What a wonderful irony to finally have this realization which, of course, was never absent in the first place.
If your goal is to finally realize your true nature and to at last pull back the curtain on your fictitious "personhood" then, by all means, buy this book!

This book is a very well written tutorial in the use of Maple's impressive math programming tools, which provide a super convenient means of computing solutions to challenging optimization problems. It would be useful as both a text and a concise partial reference for beginning Maple users and/or math programmers. Book is a it pricey but worth it.
