A entire life of Pilates in a book! Amazing ! For everybody who loves this method, this is a must buy! The book is a must read/experience/follow for Pilates teacher. I have been teaching for 12 years and this is the most clear "manual", with the most depth that I have found. You are not learning to teach the exercises, you are learning the method and an ingenious formula to bring it to your students (not to mention your own practice!) I feel it's worth the price. Think of how it translates...4 privates or a workshop? Could you learn and retain everything in this book in 4 privates or a weekend workshop? No way. You'd just be dipping a toe into the ocean! Thank you, thank you, Kathi!!!! Invaluable information and instruction for anyone who is on this Pilates journey. Kathi has gathered and shared her INCREDIBLE knowledge and understanding of this life-changing movement system in a way that will change your personal practice and instruction forever. A must for anyone committed to Joe's work. If you teach Pilates this book is a must-have for your library. The book is written from the teacher's perspective. That's one of the unique things about it, it's not a how-to-do-the-exercise book, although that's certainly in there, but mainly it's a how-to-TEACH-the-exercise book. Oh, you didn't realize those were two different things? That's one reason it's such a valuable resource. Kathi takes you by the hand and clearly shows you not just the how, but the *why* of choosing which variation is the appropriate one for the student you're teaching. Kathi also provides lots of what I call "Pilates Prescriptions"...what other exercise in the method will help your student fill in the piece that's preventing them from being successful with this exercise? Pilates is a system, and Kathi is the master at knowing how the pieces all fit together. If you're considering buying this book and are looking to reviews to help you decide one way or another take a close look. EVERY reviewer who's actually bought this book gives it 5 stars. I look at it this way...a group workshop with Kathi runs $50 an hour. There's WAY more than 8 hours of information in this book, along with meticulous notes and beautiful photographs. Yes, the book is expensive, but there's no question it's also worth it. So stop reading this already and buy it! What an amazing gift KRN has shared with us. In this book, she has truly gifted all of us with her 30 years of knowledge. For those of you complaining about the price, you must understand that what she discovered within the last three decades, she has written it all down. Those of us that trained 20 years ago recognize that the training, manuals and knowledge was absolutely hands down, not what it is today. If you are lucky enough to study with Kathi...she is not teaching you Pilates 101, she is teaching you Pilates on steroids. You should all be saying thank you KRN for your dedication and time you put into this book and the method itself. Thank you Kathi for sharing everything you know!

About the Author
Kathryn Ross-Nash . Author, Photographer & Lover of the Pilates Method Kathryn began her Classical Pilates training in 1982 and has had the privilege to study with First Generation teachers Romana Kryzanowska, Kathy Grant, Sari Mejia Santo, Jay Grimes and Edwina Fontaine. She was a Certified Romana's Pilates Level 2 Trainer and a Guild Certified Feldenkras Practitioner and was a principle dancer for ten years with Ballet Hispanico of NY, where she often returns to re-stage ballets. She holds a second-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and an undefeated AUU sparring record. Kathryn worked closely with Romana for many years. Romana named her founding Vice- President to her Presidency of the Authentic Pilates Guild. She is the only woman to demonstrate on both the Romana's Pilates Mat DVDs and the Legacy Series DVDs. Romana is quoted about Ms. Ross-Nash, saying "her work is like ice cream", "poetry in motion" and "she is one of her best"- her "Star of Stars." Kathryn appeared with Romana in Pilates Style Magazine. She was featured instructor in the premiere issue of Pilates Style and has been featured in the magazine many times since and served a writer for it's blog and magazine. She is an often-quoted expert whose advice on the method is sought after worldwide. Know throughout the industry for her purity and devotion to the work, Kath- ryn's client list spans the athletic and entertainment industry. She was honored to be the first Pilates instructor to train the dancers of the Vaganova School in St. Petersburg Russia and has taught in Moscow, Chile, Australia, Spain, Rus- sia, Germany, England, Portugal, Scotland and throughout the United States. In 2016 she was bestowed the honor of being the first instructor to teach Joe's work on the Isle of Man at the site of Camp 4, where Joe was interned. Kathryn founded the Authentic Pilates Union and was appointed Chair. She has owned and operated the American Body Tech Pilates Studio since 1992. She is the creator of many innovative workshops including: The Red Thread®, The Add On Mat®, Fix Your FeetTM, Connection to the JumpTM and Variations on a Theme - Mat & ReformerTM. Just received my copy -- WOW! SOOOOOOO much incredible information! I LOVE that the photos of each exercise (and in each phase of each exercise) are both profile AND frontal! Great thinking Kathi! In awe of how much information is in this book. I know the price tag is high, but as other reviewers of The Mat book point out, we spend hundreds for a weekend conference with only a handful of workshops. We get this book FOREVER. I LOVE my Baby Chair and was so honored to take a workshop specifically on the Baby Chair with Kathi in October. You won't be disappointed - this is an investment in your teaching and your personal growth as a student of the Pilates Method. Thank you Kathi!

After brief coverage of safety, tools, and wood, Broun arranges 32 woodworking techniques, such as gluing, clamping, measuring, finishing, fretwork, and types of joinery, in alphabetical order and devotes two to four pages of explanatory text to each. For example, the skill of chiseling and the tools it requires are briefly described, and the entire process is illustrated with 12 color photographs. The book closes with 40 pages of color photographs of mostly modern furniture (e.g., chests, tables, chairs, and knick-knacks), along with short comments on each item. The photographs are top notch, and the text is well written and concise. Unfortunately, the beginning woodworker will probably need far more help than this volume offers, while those with experience will not find much new.

As much as Cassidy hates to admit it, if she has a type, Cole Mathews definitely fits the bill perfectly. With his dark shaggy hair, golden brown eyes, muscular arms, and those damnable dimples of his- he's absolutely gorgeous. Oh, and did she just so happen to mention his hard wide chest? Yeah... totally dreamy. Er... if she were the dreamy sort, that is. Thank goodness she's not. To make matters worse, he's ridiculously easy going. And yeah, she’ll come right out and say it- nice.

Definitely kryptonite material.

Which makes him much too dangerous for the likes of her and this year, she's smart enough to know it. Even though resisting him seems futile, that doesn't mean she isn’t going to try her damnedest to do it.

Sweet and Refreshing

It was nice to read a college story where the hero isn't sleeping around and both of the main characters are decent people. There was a good balance between a focus on school, on hockey, and on the relationship. The one thing that I would have liked to see more of and hope to see it in the next book is the friendship between Cassidy and Brooke. It was mostly underdeveloped except for one moment towards the end and I would have liked to see them connect and talk about things other than boys.

The only other thing that I didn't like was Cassidy's relationship with her family. She made mistakes, yes, but I feel like no one ever really told her that the worst of it wasn't her fault. She shouldn't feel ashamed of having one night stands, because there isn't anything wrong with it. And she also shouldn't blame herself for how her relationship with her family stands. It seemed to me that she not only sacrificed the most, but she also suffered the most. To have her also take on the responsibility for being estranged is just unfair. I wood understand her parents being upset at how things at Dartmouth turned out, but quite frankly the way they handled things is just bad parenting. It almost sounds like Cassidy had to seek therapy out herself. One thing that most definitely needs to happen farther down the line in the series is an apology from her family, and they have to admit that what they did was wrong. No tearful hugs and suddenly everything is okay. They need to be not only adults, but also parents and take ownership that they nearly destroyed their eldest daughter.

Other than that rant, I did enjoy the book and I love Cole. Like I said, it was refreshing to see a nice guy as the lead, one who is willing to take things at the heroine's pace. Be warned that the book does. It off rather abruptly to open up for a sequel. I don't know the author's plans for it, obviously, but I am wondering if it would've worked better as a standalone novel.

Finding Something To Fight For

This is a really good book. Cassidy Jameson has just transferred to a new school and is doing everything she can to do better than she first did. She went to Dartmouth her freshman year with a Hockey Scholarship and she failed completely. But she's hoping to just blend into the background, do well in school, and show that she's capable of so much more.

Cassidy feels like a huge failure and she's doing everything she can to do better. She's seeing a therapist, she's working really hard in school, and she's doing everything she can to not do anything she did the previous year. Her roomie and friend, Brooklyn, drags her to parties here and there but Cassidy doesn't drink and hangs out with her friend. Her family has shut her out and she was really close with her father before all this. He coached her and pushed her for Hockey and now he's made it clear that he doesn't want to have anything to do with her. Cole is gorgeous and doesn't shy away from showing her that he cares about her and wants to be with her. She does everything she can to push him away.

Cole comes into her life and he does everything he can to make sure she knows that he wants to be Cassidy's boyfriend. He is gorgeous and he's a hockey player. But he doesn't hook up with people, he's a relationship kind of guy. He was in a relationship until he found out that his best friend turned girlfriend cheated on him and now he has trust issues.

Definitely worth reading and looking forward to the next book - Don't Leave.

Just ok for me....

I liked the storyline and I really liked The hero but absolutely could not stand the heroine. I like strong female characters and I found her to be weak, naive and stupid. I realize that she made mistakes but she didn't do anything as bad as what she carried on about the whole book (which I was absolutely sick of after 200 pages of should I or shouldn't I tell him) and then she was a victim of the rest. She also needs to tell him about other things that she was somewhat smart enough to see something bad coming but too stupid to talk to him before it blows up in her face. I doubt that I will read the next one because I can't handle characters like her. The love story was sweet but I couldn't help but think he deserved better and not because of her past but because she clearly has no common sense.

Unputdownable

I've been sucked into this book last night and all day. It is a brilliant story, brilliantly written. There are loads of striking images that work like magic to bring it to life: "Akeem would dive, his legs whipping tight together and driving him deep. Passengers watched the soles of his feet disappear into the blue. When Akeem re-emerged, the coin would shine in his raised hand."... and..."From where May lay, drops of Saint's blood left a trail across the sky. Until it fell upon her, as red rain." The pace is breakneck. The plot is gripping. There are sound-bites here and there like: "Keep your heart for the love and your head for the hate." The characters do things that are totally unexpected and even shocking and it all works perfectly. This story is really pushed to the edge. It gives the reader a lot to chew over.
It gets really funny in lots of places, like where May sits by Elizabeth for the first time and discovers Elizabeth's special talent, or super-power. There are loads of instances of things people almost think of but never clarify into words, - if that makes sense - one of the things I love best about reading. The sentences seem to be longer and the writing is more flowing than in the first book. I think everything that was great about the first book has been improved on and honed and intensified. He writes with gusto.

Can't say enough good stuff about this book. Brilliant!

Who hasn't wished for a second chance at some point?

Anyone who reads this site and my reviews knows I'm a sucker for reunion romances. I can't help it, call it a character flaw but I am really big on do-overs, so when I saw the synopsis for Second Chances by Rita Oberlies, I knew I needed to read and review it. I'm so happy I did because this was a complicated, witty, and delicious story about two people who deserve a chance to get it right.

I'm going to start this review with my one complaint and to me it's a biggie, the author had the characters calling each other by both their first and last names throughout the book. I found it very difficult and a little confusing at first because I didn't realize what was happening. The heroine's name is Brenna Morgan (yep, basically two first names) and at one point I thought it had been changed and they missed changing it in a couple of spots during editing. This distracted from what is a very good story and I just didn't see the point.

The characters in this book were very well written with genuine flaws and believable personalities. I liked that they came across as very human and someone you might actually meet in real life. Brenna Morgan is one mixed up lady. Don't get me wrong, she's completely likeable, friendly, caring, and devoted. But she has a lot and I do mean A LOT of baggage. The thing is she knows this and even though it sometimes gets in her way, she doesn't make excuses. She's returned home to Boston so her great aunt can help her take care of her grandmother who is suffering from dementia. She has no job, her bank account is dwindling, and the ex-love of her life is bound and determined to win her back. Luke Braden is a high powered attorney in a family of high powered attorneys. It's never bothered him that he and Brenna come from different worlds even though he knows it bothers her. He has somewhat of a white knight complex but for her, he's really trying to tame it down. I love that early one; we know Luke is determined to get Brenna back. It shows that despite the little game he tries to play, he's invested in them even though she's determined to steer clear. What I really admire is that even when Brenna takes a job that is below her education level and not a "normal" job for a woman, he doesn't say a thing. Believe me, I'm not sure many men of his social standing and prominence would have been able to. To me this is very telling of Luke's true nature and one reason he's absolutely a stand up guy.

Even though these two have a history, the author lets their relationship build over time. Luke is really good at breaking down the walls Brenna has erected and not pushing her. When he chooses to spend time with her aunt and grandmother it melts my heart, even though I'm sure he does it to get closer to her. When a tragedy strikes he's there to pick up the pieces and help her deal with people and things she really doesn't want to deal with. When Brenna finally opens up, I love that he doesn't judge just offers support and his help. I appreciate that Brenna realizes she's taking more than she's giving in this relationship. I also admire that fact that even though she knows Luke would help her financially with anything she wants or needs, she doesn't expect it and refuses to let him. It humbles me when she shares things with Luke she's never told anyone because even though she's broken, it proves how strong she's been her whole life.

I found Second Chances to be an interesting, emotional, and enjoyable book filled with realistic characters, witty banter, and a fantastic opportunity to get it right the second time around. Enjoy!

A Cute Read

Second Chances by Rita Oberlies was such a cute read! The characters were absolutely wonderful, the plot was really cute, and the romance was pretty darn hot.

I loved the banter between all the characters, especially Luke and Brenna. All the time Brenna spent at her new job was too great - Harper was absolutely hilarious.

My one complaint about it would be that at first the story was a bit confusing with people calling each other by both their first and last names. It was a bit hard to keep straight. I also wish a little more of the characters past had been told - there was a lot I just kept waiting to hear about and never really did.

The characters were the best part of the book. They all had their different flaws and were super real. Brenna and Luke were so great together and I loved watching their story grow as the book went on. I loved Tess too - she was great.

Overall this was a pretty good read. It was fast paced and I breezed through it in just a few hours. A great read for anyone looking for a cute contemporary romance.

Review:

"Second Chances"by Rita Oberlies was a cute, witty, complicated and hot romance story. It kept me continuing to turn the page being a fast paced read until the end.

The story was of Luke Braden and Brenna Morgan who at one time had been sweethearts but something had happened and they were torn apart. The title of this novel is "Second Chances" and you will be finding out from the read if there will be any of this from these two people. You will find in some of this novel is a bit complicated in all the problems that this heroine went through but it was also witty and definitely delicious where you will soon see if these two people deserve a chance to get it right this second time.

The characters were very well written with believable and realistic personalities. Brenna seemed to be like a very mixed up person who was very friendly, caring and even likable but OMG what all she had gone through and was still going was truly really something. Luke... was this 'high powered attorney'..who was sort of thought as a 'white knight' complex for Brenna. Now, I am sure you are asking at this point just what is "Second Chances" all about... and this is where I say you must pick up this good read to find out. Will this guy get this
girl in the end?

If you are in for a interesting, enjoyable and emotional ride then you have come to the right place..and I do recommend "Second Chances" to you.

Leonid P. Lebedev is Professor of Mathematics at the National University of Colombia and Professor of Mechanics and Mathematics at Rostov State University in Russia. He is the author of Functional Analysis in Mechanics and Functional Analysis: Applications in Mechanics and Inverse Problems. Michael J. Cloud is Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Lawrence Technological University. He is the author of Inequalities with Applications to Engineering and Electromagnetics. Lebedev and Cloud also coauthored Tensor Analysis, and The Calculus of Variations and Functional Analysis with Optimal Control and Applications in Mechanics.

Best intro to Mechanics I ever read!

As a student of physics, I took up this book to brush up on some classical mechanics before delving back into analytical mechanics. I was pleasantly surprised in a couple of ways, one, at how well the authors explain the material, albeit on occasion they do skip a step or two; second, it was not a book on physics proper but on mechanical engineering. That is not a fault though, in a sense it does a better job than the purely physics treatment other books take and you get to learn neat little things like the stress and strain tensors.
So, if you want to deepen your understanding of mechanics, read this book before you hit the textbooks.
